Our First Project

Under Panmayam initiative, we are trying to plant 120 native tree species in 2 villages in Kancheepuram District. The villages are Thenneri and Agaram. Both these historic villages have been under the influence of Chola and Pallava kingdoms. These villages host small and beautiful temples which was built by Sembian ma Devi, the Chola Grandmother. These villages are predominantly Rice growing areas which is water fed by the lake Thenneri and its famous canal system constructed by Pallava kings.

The irrigation to rice fields have been carefully Engineered during the pallava period. There is literally Zero Energy required to irrigate around 4000 acres of land. A unique masterpiece for itself

Panmayam regreening initiative Project Duration

2024 till 2027.

Project Success

We will measure the success of the Project once the trees reach 3 years maturity.

After 3 years, normally the trees are on their own and are able to Sustain longer stretches of drought and torrential rains and winds.

We deem our initiative sucessful, if we could Sustain 100 out of 120 species.

Geospatial Marking

Each tree will be marked using geospatial Technology to spot them with in the village. A Local village steward is appointed to track the growth of the species together with people from Panmayam initiative. Currently it has been very difficult to source endangered and vulnerable species. Once these endangered species grow to maturity, these villages will act as source of seeds and proliferate the species to further villages. Overall, the strategy is to proliferate the endangered species and go towards “Least Concerned” Status in IUCN classification.
